Palace lost 1-0 to second placed Derby County in what turned out to be tighter game than many had predicted. Derby played reasonable passing football, as did Palace, but the Rams had more of a cutting edge up-front and duly took the lead in the first half following good work from Lupoli, on loan from Arsenal, who crossed low for David Jones to tuck home. After the break, Palace were improved and dominated the play but couldn't break Derby down. Plenty of shots came Bywater's way in the Derby goal, but Palace couldn't muster a shot on target in the second half - and 1 on target in the first half tells its own story. Derby had chances to make the game safe in the second half but failed to put them away, seeming to be content to defend a slender one goal lead. In the end, just the one goal was enough to give Derby all 3 points.
