...how does your garden grow?

One of the fun parts of enjoying the first spring in a new home is discovering just what is in the garden. Our garden was an overgrown jungle when we moved in and it didn't appear that much was going on at all, apart from the marijuana plant in the middle of the lawn!

However as Spring has well and truly sprung now we're seeing some good stuff in the garden.

The flower above has been popping up quite regularly over the last month or so and I think it's a bit of a stunner even if the plant it grows out from is a bit raggedy.

I had noticed this flower on the left when we got back from holiday and am really taken with it despite having no idea what it is. The plant looks a bit like Chives but seems to be a succulent of some description.  If you know what either of these are please let me know via the comment box below.

Our herb garden is also doing really well. I've just planted some Basil and we also have Oregano, Rosemary, Thai Coriander, Chives, Curry Leaves and Mint so our food should be tasting good shortly!

The other thing I'm pleased with in the garden is my finished compost bin (see The Good Life for more on this) which is now doing overtime as our garden and food waste all get chucked in (despite boffins on the web telling me I shouldn't put various bits in. But hey, if it's biodegradable in it goes!) and it seems to be working a treat.

Together with our recycling we've managed to cut our weekly rubbish down to just under one full bin bag a week which is great.
