I always think one of the highlights of church is being linked with other churches and outreach projects, supporting and encouraging one another to do our best as we serve the poorest and most vulnerable in our communities.

So at The Gathering it has been a real joy to support two Soup Kitchens in Macassar with monthly food contributions.

On Sunday afternoon we had an urgent message form Beaty (who runs one of the Soup Kitchens we support) asking if we can help because there have been a few shack fires which have left people destitute.

This morning we were able to gather some of the food and toiletries we have spare and take them to Beaty to distribute amongst those who are in need. This is one of the joys of working in partnership with locals, they know where the real needs are.

The Gathering was able to donate 50kgs of maize meal, six new blankets, a box of toiletries and 24 brand new pairs of flipflops.

And the best bit for me is that we got the joy of delivering this, and then spending a good while with Beaty planning a joint outreach for Women's Day in August.
