Number 21069

Runner 21069 was out and about on the streets and Lourensford wine estate in Somerset West doing her first ever 10 km road race! Yes, it's official, Paula went and chose the hottest day of summer so far (maxed at 38°C) to face her biggest challenge in the Run For Life Road Race/Half Marathon! Having trained for nothing in particular for the past 6 months or so, she was never going to be convinced that she could enter this sort of thing alone, so her dear husband decided to enter her instead.

Thankfully, Paula was not to be disgraced and managed to cross the finish line in 1 hour, 7 minutes - not bad for a first try! It was lovely for her to run a lot of the way with Zelda, our pastor's wife at our new church and particularly for them to run in and cross the line together. Our pastor, Daniel also ran a phenomenal half marathon in 1 hour 56 mins. Irony of the day has to go to Dean who didn't quite make it on time to the finish line with the boys as he wasn't expecting Paula to finish so quickly - ha, ha, hee, hee!!! Dean says: "We'll try harder to be there for the next one!" Seriously, I'm incredibly proud of Paula for doing this!!!!!

Daniel finishing in sub 2 hours

Relaxing by the river after the event

Daniel took the plunge

The kids (big & small) had fun throwing stones into the river

  1. That is great! Good for you. I think I am glad that my husband not tried such a thing for me, but perhaps he should!!

    It looks so beautiful there.

  3. Hi Fran, it really is more beautiful here than the photos can do justice.

Hi Lisa, Paula was chuffed to see you commenting on the blog. Thanks too for your encouragement, Paula's really amazed and proud of herself and rightly so.
