My boxing home is Knockout Centre in Strand, just a short journey from home, and I love this place run by the excellent Corné Blom.

Until recently we were part of the CEY family, but they needed the space for their growing Crossfit classes and the boxing side of things needed space to grow too, so it felt natural to separate the two out.

The biggest joy of now being in our own venue is that the boxing ring is back! At CEY the ring had to be sacrificed due to space demands so it's great to have it back.

Knockout Centre is the only gym in the Helderberg area with a proper boxing ring which speaks volumes about the quality of the place!

Corné has worked incredibly hard to set up Knockout Centre and already it feels like home. It's a bright and airy place and it's nice not to have to share the space with any other sporting discipline.

The other joy of having the ring back is that we are able to spar again which is something we've all missed. Sparring will be my S post so I won't say too much here other than to say that it is a lot of fun!

As well as allowing members of Knockout Centre to develop a healthy respect for being in the ring, the ring also allows for a number of different exercises such as step-ups on to the apron of the ring. Dips for working the triceps in the arms to name just a couple of them.

If you're local and interested in giving it a try, WhatsApp or call Corné on 076 802 7573

  7. I have never done boxing, but my husband really enjoys it to keep fit. Unfortunately, we no longer live close to the gym he liked.
