I am one happy bunny now that I've got the green light from the surgeon to get back exercising.
These last six weeks have been really difficult, not just because the after effects of surgery left me incontinent (TMI) and thoroughly depressed, but the fact that I couldn't do anything that would elevate my heart rate just compounded the depression.
So it was a great relief, and a tad exciting, when seeing the surgeon on Thursday he said my recovery was well on track, and was very happy for me to get back to my full on exercise programme. So I'm back to silly O' clock waking up in order to ride before the traffic builds up and the joggers get in my way.
I'm not normally given to depression, but these last few weeks have been truly awful, and all I can say is that it's great to be coming out the other side with hope and some fresh early morning air in my lungs. The surgeon hooked me up to the same equipment he used to diagnose my condition, and found that my bladder was completely empty and my prostate was no longer pushing up in to it, nor was it interfering with my kidneys. So surgery wise, it's been 100% successful, but the mechanical damage will take at least six months to fully heal. But it will heal and already the incontinence is massively reduced. Employing some old Pilates pelvic exercises is also helping.I took things easy this morning and began with an 11 mile ride. I will build up over the coming weeks, aiming to get back to my usuual 14/15 mile rides as soon as I can. I will also be back at Boxing a week on Monday, and I'm really looking forward to that!
Thank you LORD!
